PvE Idea: Continuing the GW Story Line
Introduction:
Alright, I couldn't think of an appropriate title, but I would like to hear propose a way to make the end-game of GW more interesting. Any and all feedback is appreciated. (Not sure if something like this has been suggested before...)
The Problem:
Create a real time history for Guild Wars. Currently, we have a game that runs from beginning to end. Once we the game has been beaten - there is really no progression as far as a story line. This basically means that history kind of stands still until the next chapter is released. There is no historical events or changes that occur.
My Proposal:
I think it would be rewarding in many ways to see on going historical events that players can participate in between chapters. Instead of adding "expansions" such as Sorrow's Furnace, GW can present an actual changing story line.
How it would work:
Characters that had beaten a game in the newest chapter of guild wars would then be able to participate in events that are happening "currently". This would mean that there would be various quests and missions that get added to the game for short intervals reflecting the current state of history. These things can be about politics, economics, new threats, invasions, religious events, etc.
Examples:
1. The reuniting of Kourna and Istan. How would it happen? Are there still political parties in Kourna that are against Istan?
2. Who is going to lead Kourna? General Morghan? How? Are there better leaders?
Other Notes/Thoughts
One thing that would be cool here is if players actually had a chance to take sides based on the politicians they liked. Maybe they would like to see Koss be the Kournan leader. Having player decisions affect the future of Guild Wars would be very interesting.
Another intereting thing would be to extend PvE only PvP events. (This, in my opinion, would make a lot of PvE people happy). These events would help shape the changes that happen in GW. (Example: There is a tournament where Koss supporters and General Morghan supports duel in 2v2, 4v4, 6v6, 8v8, XvX, matches. The global tally would decide the outcome of the elections.
Conclusion
A lot of people are unhappy with the "end-game" of Guild Wars. Mostly these are PvE players that do not wish to PvP. This would create a lot of content for them - and keep them excited for the next chapter. I think it would help drive sales for ANet. And it would also give PvE'ers a chance to experience more PvP related things besides having to deal with HA, GvG, Rank, RA, etc. It would actually be PvP that impacts the PvE environment. I know this would probably be a huge project for ANet, but worth it. It would also allow PvE to become less static and more dynamic. Players wouldn't exactly know what they are getting into when these things happen - and it would allow for versatility in builds and tactics.
Any and all comments are suggested - no flames please.
